NAMPOL cautions public about scam targeting CEOs and Managing Directors

The Namibian Police (NAMPOL) are cautioning the public about a scam targeting Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors. A statement released by NAMPOL revealed that a syndicate soliciting funds under false pretences has already targeted two prominent CEOs last week. The scam involves a supposed secretary or personal assistant calling a particular office, explained as on behalf of their Executive Director or a Governor, and insisting on speaking to the boss. The scammers would then call the targeted CEO or MD, with often convincing stories about accidents, stranded relatives and of course the need for money. NAMPOL thus cautions heads of institutions and personal assistants at all companies to be cautious and vigilant when contacted by unknown people, who pretend to be acquaintances and requesting money. Police are advising the public to thoroughly interrogate such callers and to avoid sending money to anyone without any valid confirmation.
