National Assembly clarifies alleged 'abruptly adjourned session'

The National Assembly (NA) has dismissed social media posts that Speaker Peter Katjavivi on Tuesday abruptly adjourned a parliamentary session. The NA’s clarification comes after some media houses reported on their online platforms on Tuesday that the Speaker had adjourned the session abruptly. A media statement issued by the NA on Wednesday said the speaker adjourned the session for a tea break, a normal parliamentary procedure. “The fact is that those who are well vested with parliamentary procedures that govern its proceedings know that the National Assembly daily sittings break at 15h54 and resume again at 16h00. This has always has been the practice since 1990,” reads the statement. The statement further noted that for some media houses to twist facts is “false reporting”. It also requested journalists to always verify their information with the NA public relations office whenever they are unsure of the practices in question. NAMPA
