NBC and NTB sign MoU to promote tourism

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) and Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote tourism using nbc radio, television, and online platforms. The strategic partnership also seeks to encourage domestic travel to stimulate economic growth and preserve income and jobs for locals. The MoU, which comes into effect immediately, was signed by both nbc director-general Stanley Similo, and NTB chief executive officer, Digu //Naobeb. Speaking at the occasion, Similo indicated that nbc will advertise promotional packages for tourist operators, and by doing so, revitalise domestic tourism and stimulate the economy. He says the deal will also play a key role in the advocacy for domestic tourism particularly amongst youths in the festive season. On his part, Naobeb, stressed that even though borders are open in Namibia, the second wave of infections in big markets such as Germany, Italy, and France, amongst others, has diminished any hope of tourists visiting the country. Naobeb also indicated that airlines such as KLM and Qatar, amongst others, are likely to cancel direct flights to Namibia, which can harm tourism. He says the majority of travellers in international markets are only willing to travel once a vaccine is available. He also shed light on the concern of exorbitant prices required to travel by locals, saying even though there are no policies to regulate prices, operators such as Gondwana and Namibia Wildlife Resorts, often have special packages for locals. The NTB boasts 4 741 members including lodges, car rentals, and tour operators, among others.
