The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) distanced itself from the letter authored by some journalists, including from the NBC, calling on President Hage Geingob to take remedial action against press secretary Alfredo Hengari who is accused of meddling in newsrooms. The organisation has indicated that, although the letter was signed by a number of journalists from various organisations in the country, the NBC is the only organisation which was singled out and mentioned by name, where the alleged specific interferences took place. The NBC said this made them question the motive of the letter. It further emphasised its professional working relationship with the Presidency, and that, just like any other agencies, it does not entertain any interference due to strong values and principles. The organisation noted that it is with regret that some NBC employees chose to ignore the existing standard company rules governing the approach to deal with challenges experienced at the workplace and that no grievances were raised with the relevant line management.
