The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) will welcome any investigation into its finances by the Ombudsman, as requested by DTA Member of Parliament Nico Smit. The remarks formed part of a media release issued by the national broadcaster on Friday. Smit has requested for the intervention of the Office of the Ombudsman in funds management at SOE's, including the NBC. Smit alleged maladministration and misuse of funds at the NBC, which, he says, always relies on government for bailouts - after funds are left unaccounted for. NBC's Director General Stanley Similo thus suggested any individual, including Ombudsman John Walters, should feel welcome to scrutinise the entity's finances. Similo further said the national broadcaster had increased its revenue despite a capital expenditure budget cut - of more than N$200 million, over the past two years.
