NEF, ILO produce business continuity plan to deal with COVID-19

The outbreak of COVID-19 is catching many institutions by surprise on how to deal with the situation. This follows the closure of many offices of ministries and companies, after some of their employee either tested positive or came in contact with a positive person. The Namibia Employers Federation (NEF) says it is receiving inquiries as COVID-19 figures continue to escalate. Bella Mupurua, a liaison of the Global Apprenticeship Network Namibia, a division within the NEF says, "in stage one of the pandemic, a lot of inquiries we got from members as well as non-member employers really revealed that many companies do not have the necessary crisis plans and policies in place." In order to ensure that businesses are better prepared, the NEF, along with International Labour Organisation (ILO) produced a business continuity plan to inform local businesses on how to deal with the pandemic. She said, "organisations that are in position to work from home should do so and consult our 'NEF Work From Home Guide' as well think of structures that they will need to put in place for their employees to work from home, this virus is spreading faster and the infection rate is increasing on a daily." But the NEF can only give advice, while the responsibility still lies on both employers and employee to ensure they adhere to the health regulations.
