The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has nominated charcoal as the commodity of the month for September 2021. Charcoal worth N$73 million was exported, showing an increase of 13.2% from N$64 million recorded in August. NSA says in the September Namibia Trade Statistics bulletin that most charcoal exported was in lump form that is unpacked, where value addition can probably take place somewhere else. Most of the product was exported to South Africa, followed by the Netherlands, Belgium and United Arab Emirates. The September bulletin further says that copper features as the most dominant commodity in both import and export trade flow, indicating the vital role Namibia plays as a major logistics hub for SADC in terms of copper. Namibia's export basket mainly comprised minerals such as copper, diamonds, gold, petroleum oils and fuels and ore concentrates. Fish remains the only non-mineral product among the top five exports.
