The Veterinary office in the Okondjatu settlement is happy with the annual vaccination programme of livestock being carried out by local farmers. This was revealed by the Animal Health Technician Emily Black Kanguatjivi at Okondjatu. Kanguatjivi stressed that this year local farmers have put a lot of effort in vaccinating their livestock, compared to previous years. In addition, she says, although most farmers are complaining about the cost of vaccine, many have done commendable work this year. Kanguatjivi said, "this vaccination is supavax, anthrax as well as brucella but it does not mean farmers have to do those three vaccine only they can go as wide as much as they can." However, the animal health technician says farmers are reluctant on branding and ear tagging livestock on time as this helps in cases of stock theft. She also complained about some farmers moving livestock without permits. Kanguatjivi added that her office is not reaching out to the farmers for inspection and clinical awareness programmes due to financial constraints, urging the farmers to visit her office for regular updates.
