Opuwo Rural Constituency Councillor has died

Opuwo Rural Constituency Councillor, Uaurikua Cornelius Kakuva, died at the age of 63 in the Opuwo District hospital on Sunday. According to the Kunene Regional Council's senior public relations officer (PRO), Tulimekondjo Pandeni, Kakuva is reported to have died after a short illness. Kakuva, who replaced Kazeongere Tjeundo as the Opuwo Rural Constituency Councillor during the 2020 by-election, before retaining his position during the 2021 Regional Council and Local Authority Elections, on the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) ticket, also served as mayor at the Opuwo Town Council from 2004 to 2010. Kakuva also served as a school principal at Musaso Combined School at Otuani in the Kunene Region. PDM's coordinator for the Kunene Region, Karitjindua Hepute, described Kakuva as a hardworking individual who never shied away from serving his community, regardless of which political party they hail from, adding that the party, Kunene Region, in particular, and the whole of Namibia have lost a true patriot. According to Hepute, further details relating to his funeral will be announced at a later stage. -NAMPA
