Ovaherero, Ovambanderu and members of the Nama communities are gathered at Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of the late Ovaherero Paramount Chief Hosea Komombumbi Kutako. Kutako died on 18 July 1970. He founded Namibia's first nationalist party, the South West African National Union (SWANU). Ovaherero spiritual leaders led the vigil into the gravesite where the late Kutako and his successors such as Clemence Kapuuo, Chief Kuaima Riruako and others are buried. Upon entering the gravesite, Ombara Otjitambi Vekuii Rukoro of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority requested for power from the late Herero leaders to allow the communities to succeed in their quest for reparations and for unity within Otjiherero and Nama-speaking Namibians. Representatives from the traditional Authorities of Ovambanderu and Nama as well as the host, Ovaherero and Government officials are in attendance.
