PDK bags two NAMAs

Namibia’s dynamic trio PDK took home two major awards during the fifth delivery of the eight-weekend Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) show. The show, in the form of a virtual broadcast, took place on Saturday from the capital. PDK, comprised of Patrick Mwashindange, Dion Auala and Kamtonyo Andreas walked away with the Best Music Video for their song ‘Saka’ which is their second music video from their 12th studio album, ‘Grateful’ and Best Group/Duo of the year. Both categories were tightly contested by the likes of Lioness, Dixon, Kalux, Cool Under Pressure, Ethnix and House Guru Gang. In their acceptance speech, PDK said receiving the award for Best Group/Duo symbolises a big win for them personally. “From all the awards we got in our career, this one means a lot. It means so much that you can tell us to leave the music industry,” they said. The NAMAs Special Award was given to late American rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur and saw a fitting tribute by three of Namibia’s best rappers, KP Illest, J Black and Jericho who paid tribute to what many would describe as the best rapper the world has ever seen. NAMAs executive chairperson, Tim Ekandjo, said the special award is reserved for any artist or group whether locally, continentally or internationally who have cemented themselves as a legend. “This year we are bestowing this award on a man whose lyrics were powerful, considered as the world’s most influential rapper of all time, a man who was never afraid to address contemporary social issues that plagued society, and a man considered as a symbol of resistance and activism against inequality,” he said. The NAMAs finale is held over a period of eight weekends with the next concert scheduled for 10 October 2020. The awards are sponsored by Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) in partnership with the Namibian Film Commission, Simply You Magazine and Windhoek Airport Transfers Tours and Rentals. -NAMPA
