Police on the hunt for two brothers who assaulted officers in Swakopmund

The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region are searching for two brothers who are on the run after they reportedly assaulted a police officer while one of them resisted arrest for a separate incident. A crime report issued by Head of Public Relations for the Namibian Police, Deputy Inspector Kauna Shikwambi on Thursday stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday around 22h00. It is alleged that the members of the force, who are stationed at the Mondesa Police Station, in Swakopmund, reportedly went to make an arrest of one of the men who was suspected of theft. “Upon arrival at the house, when the suspect saw the police car he ran into the house. Three officers followed him and ordered him to come out but he refused. The suspect later agreed to come out of the house and was willing to get into the van. However, his brother intervened and told him not to get into the van,” Shikwambi explained. She added that the brother, Emmanuel 'Imms' Haulofu (picture) went back into the house, came out with an axe and proceeded to hack at one of the officers on the head, causing him serious injuries. The suspects, one of whom is also on a warrant of arrest at Omaruru for Assault GBH, also smashed the police vehicle windows before fleeing the scene. The officer that was injured was rushed to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition. A search has been launched and cases have been opened against the men for attempted murder, malicious damage to State property, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer in the execution of his official duties. The public has been discouraged from being unruly, uncooperative, provoking, insulting and assaulting officers on duty. “The law enforcers are there to enforce the law and simply need cooperation. Lawlessness, undermining of authority, obstructing officers in the execution of their duties cannot be tolerated,” said Shikwambi. -NAMPA
