National Assembly Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi says the Namibian parliament has done a lot over the past 32 years of the country's independence in enacting laws and policy for the betterment of all citizenry. In an interview with NBC News, Prof Katjavivi says the legislature has also done a lot in striving towards gender equality and women representation in the legislative branch of government. He however stressed the need to do more to improve on this achievements, including women representation. He also touched on the issue of people with special needs saying a lot has been done to transform the parliament building to ensure that it is friendly to those that are physically challenged. Prof Katjavivi further pointed out that his need to engage other stakeholders, including the NBC, in order to find ways to introduce sign language interpretation in parliament broadcast. He is further happy with what he has achieved as Unam's First Vice-Chancellor but added that with the discovery and innovation in the gas and oil sector, it's up to all tertiary institutions to be innovative.
