While the executive director of SWAPO, Austin Samupwa said the governing party has not received any official resignation from the Affirmative Repositioning Movement (AR) members, a political analyst has said the mass resignation of the young activists should serve as a wake-up call for SWAPO. Analyst Dr Hoze Riruako said it doesn't matter how a resignation was tendered, "resignation is resignation". Riruako says he is not surprised by the resignation as the entanglement between AR followers and SWAPO was a troubled marriage. SWAPO, he said, should be worried whether its house was in order and avoid casting a blind eye on the mass resignation of young members. Leaders and supporters of AR have taken to social media to publicly divorce from the ruling party on Heroes' Day. The resignation comes merely a month after AR was recognised by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) as eligible to participate in this year's local authority elections. AR leader Job Amupanda, in a statement, said they (AR) no longer identified with "South West Africa" and questioned whether SWAPO was still relevant as the "People's Organisation". Amupanda said, "corrupt South West Africa, (SWAPO ) is a conglomeration of thieves and aspiring thieves, and efforts to cleanse it has been met with concrete and steel[y] resistance by the corrupt elite governing South West Africa." Samupwa said the party would not react based on social media rumours but will wait for the papers to reach its office. Five years ago SWAPO expelled then SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) leaders Dr Elijah Ngurare, Amupanda, Dimbulukweni Nauyoma and George Kambala from the party following differences over how the country's thorny land issue should be tackled. The quartet took to court. The High Court ruled in their favour and ordered their reinstatement as full SWAPO members. Despite their reinstatement, Amupanda, Nauyoma and Kambala went on to establish AR whose focus is land and socio-economic justice. It, however, remained unclear whether members of AR remained SWAPO members although the movement is not affiliated to the latter. Until today's announcement.
