Search for 15-year-old boy's body at Sinzogoro Village will be called off today

The search for the body of a 15-year-old boy who was killed by a hippo on Tuesday at Sinzogoro Village will be called off today. Kavango West Police Regional Commander Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo told nbc News that the search efforts proved futile as the body of Frans Ngongo has not been recovered or re-surfaced yet. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) says it is saddened to learn about the unfortunate incident which claimed the life of the boy. MEFT Chief Public Relations Officer Romeo Muyunda however indicated that the mitigation and management of human-wildlife conflict remain a top priority for the ministry. Muyunda urged the deceased' family to visit the nearest Regional Office for assistance for financial support. In terms of the revised National Policy on Human Wildlife Conflict Management, payments for accidental death and injuries caused by wild animals can only be administered when there is a death certificate. In this case, the family can also approach the court, which is the only authority with the mandate, to declare that the person has died. After obtaining such a declaration, the family can then be issued a death certificate.
