SGBV protesters say consultations with the Government will continue until a lasting solution is found

The protesters against sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) say consultations with the Government will continue until a lasting solution is found. This follows after representatives of the protesters, met President Hage Geingob and cluster ministers at State House on Friday. The group's demands include that, laws be strengthened and swift actions be taken against perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence. Following days of protests which pressured the Government to come up with a comprehensive plan of action, the group says it is satisfied with the meeting's outcome. The plan of action outlines the integration of GBV units into police activities and special expertise to be provided to reported cases. The protests also had undesirable actions such as the arrest of the participants by the Police. Group leader, Betha Tobias said that they admitted fault on their part as to not outlining the modalities of the demonstrations as prescribed by the law.
