Some opposition members on the National Council are calling for the recognition and registration of ex-Koevoet and SWATF members as war veterans. The status would allow those individuals to benefit from existing government social programmes. The motion was however shot down by SWAPO party MPs who argued that the conscribed soldiers on the side of the then apartheid government, had benefited enough from their 'colonial masters'.
