A teenage boy died on Friday after he was allegedly hit by an unknown driver on the Grootfontein - Otjinene main road. According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Otjozondjupa regional spokesperson Maureen Mbeha on Friday, the incident happened between 05h00 and 06h00 about nine kilometers south of Grootfontein, on the B14 road. It is alleged that an unknown suspect bumped two minors who are suspected to have been walking on the road and fled the scene without ascertaining the injury caused. The second victim aged eight sustained serious injuries with an arm and leg broken, and was transferred to a Windhoek hospital. The deceased has been identified as 14-year-old Richard Sourib and the next of kin have been informed. Mbeha said a case has been opened on counts of culpable homicide, failing to stop a motor vehicle immediately after an accident in which a person was killed or injured or suffered damage of property or animal, failing to ascertain nature and extend of injuries sustained by any person after an accident, failing to render assistance to an injured person after an accident and defeat the course of justice. “The Otjozondjupa Police is calling on anyone with information regarding the accident or the driver to come forward. I also call on the mechanics who might be approached to repair a damaged motor vehicle suspected to have been in an accident to inform us,” she said. Police investigation into the matter continues.
