Education Authorities in Kavango West Region are concerned about escalating teenage pregnancies and school drop-outs in the region. From 2020 to date, the region saw 554 learners fall pregnant, while 4 426 learners dropped out of school. The highest number of learner pregnancies were recorded in Kandjimi, Bunya, Ncuncuni and Nzinze circuits, followed by Mpungu, Katji na Katji and Ncamagoro. The Kavango West Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture has a total of 177 schools and seven-circuit offices. Poverty, lack of life skills education, socio-economic pressure, cultural and religious beliefs are considered to be the major contributing factors to learner pregnancy.
