Three draft laws – the Combating of Rape Amendment, Combating of Domestic Violence and Access to Information bills – will take centre stage as the 5th Session of the 7th Parliament resumes today. The National Assembly (NA) went on recess on 28 April. In a statement availed to the media late yesterday, NA spokesperson, Rafael Hangula provided a brief on the work that lies ahead for the legislative arm for the remainder of the year, while also providing insight into the NA’s activities during their break. Chiefly, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration went on an oversight drive to Inland Revenue regional offices and customs points of entry in the Oshana, Ohangwena and Erongo regions. Their aim was to assess the efficiency, effectiveness, appropriateness, fairness, impact and applicability of taxation, revenue and customs duties collection. They also delved into the achievements and challenges at customs entry points. This visit comes just a few weeks after NamRA courted controversy in the public court when it announced that it destroyed counterfeit goods worth N$5 million. NAMPA
