Tobias Hainyeko Constituency councillor, Christoph Likuwa, on Tuesday dismissed a report by Khomas Governor, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, that 65 toilets had been built in his constituency under the current financial year. McLeod-Katjirua made the revelation while delivering her State of the Region Address at the Khomas Regional Council head office on Tuesday, when she said the region had made some tangible progress by providing basic services in informal settlements. She said the city council availed N$1 950 000 to construct 65 toilets in Windhoek’s Tobias Hainyeko Constituency for the 2019/20 financial year, and these should have been completed by now. However, Likuwa rejected the report, saying the Governor should not report on projects that have not been done. He said he had seen the proposal, but none of the toilets has been built as the governor announced. “I remember when Coronavirus (COVID-19) broke out, the City received money from NamPower, the Social Security Commission and NamWater to build toilets in my constituency, but only two toilets were built as a demonstration,” said Likuwa. He said he stood up to respond to the governor’s speech because people are watching and listening, and they will ask him where these toilets are. McLeod-Katjirua said she asks people responsible for compiling reports to forward them to her office. Therefore, she only reports on what is forwarded to her and she cannot “thumb suck” information from people. “We will follow up and verify who is telling the truth,” she said. -NAMPA
