TRANSNAMIB blames old rolling stock and rail infrastructure for the 195 train derailments in the past four years

TRANSNAMIB has blamed old rolling stock and rail infrastructure for the 195 train derailments in the past four years. The latest train derailment occurred on the railway line between Aus and Goageb when a locomotive and four wagons capsized as a result of a wash-away. Although no injuries were reported during this incident, the railway service operator's spokesperson, Abigail Raubenheimer, says these derailments in the past four years claimed two lives - one in 2021 at Swakopmund in Erongo Region, and in 2018 at Kalkfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region.
