The Namibian Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman in the kidnapping case of a three-month-old baby in Tsumeb. Albertina Jason, also known as Tina, is from Onakasino village Amillema, Oshikoto Region, is due to appear before the Tsumeb Magistrates' Court on a charge of kidnapping. Jason was found with the baby boy, who was identified by his 18-year-old mother from Onhele-yiwa village. The baby was medically checked by a doctor and was confirmed to be in good health and consequently handed back to the mother. Two more people suspected to be accomplices in the matter, were arrested and already made their first appearance in the Tsumeb Magistrate Court. They are 21-year- old Lydia Kaunehafo Shimbilinga from Onhele- Siwa village, Ohangwena Region, and her 25-year-old brother Joseph Natangwe Shatilwe, who is a security officer in Swakopmund. The suspects are detained at Tsumeb Police holing cells and their case is postponed to 17 August for further investigation. It is alleged that the mother of the baby was lured to Tsumeb after receiving an offer to work there as a domestic worker. When she arrived in Tsumeb, an unidentified man and a known woman met her, and then gave her N$400 to go buy food at a local retail shop. She was however asked to leave her baby with one of the suspects when she entered a shop. Upon her return, the suspect and the baby were nowhere to be found. The mother tried to contact the woman on her phone, but it was switched off. The police were alerted and commenced with the investigations which are still underway.
