Two people died on the Otavi/Otjiwarongo road this afternoon. The incident occurred about 20 kilometres from Otavi, when an Iveco passenger bus lost control, bumped into a bakkie which was parked near the road, burning one passenger in the Iveco beyond recognition. One of the fatalities is the son of a nearby farmer, who together with his father and a worker was there to extinguish the fire. The trio had parked their bakkie near the road, facing the Otjiwarongo direction. Upon impact, the farmer's son who was sitting in the stationery vehicle fell out of the bakkie and died on the spot. The farmer and worker escaped without injuries while several other passengers injured in the bus were transported to the Otjiwarongo State hospital. The body that was trapped in the Iveco has been removed and taken to Otavi clinic mortuary. Otjozondjupa Regional Police Spokesperson, Inspector Maureen Mbeha confirmed the incident, cautioning motorists to be careful as the fire is still not extinguished.
