Two-year-old burned to death at Okahandja

A two-year-old boy died at Okahandja's Oshetu 1 informal settlement after a house was gutted in a fire. According to eyewitnesses, the toddler was playing with matches and started the fire. Another witness alleged that the fire could have been extinguished, but there is no water. Officials say the child suffered minor burn wounds and may have died from smoke inhalation. The town of Okahandja has been without water since this morning, according to the residents of the town, claiming that being without water has become a norm. Attempts to get clarity on the water situation in the town, the town's CEO referred NBC News to Mr Linus //Garoeb who is the caretaker of the town. He said he is at a funeral and cannot comment. //Garoeb further said that he is not the correct person to comment on the town's matters. Rural and Urban Development Minister Erastus Utoni said he was on his way to the town when NBC News contacted him. NOTE: The earlier version of the story stated the age of the deceased as three years old, as stated by the Namibian Police. He, however, turns three in August.
