Unemployed Usakos residents threaten to throw away their voters' cards

The high rate of unemployment at Usakos frustrates the residents with some threatening to throw away their voters' cards. This, after 50 residents of Usakos gathered at a railway construction site hoping to be employed. The residents came as early as 07h00 hoping to be recruited but no one seemed to attend to them. They accused the construction company, working on upgrading the railway line between Walvis Bay and Kranzberg, of bringing in people from other towns while ignoring Usakos residents. The human resource manager at the site, who refused to divulge his name, said they hired people from the town and only brought in people with skills they could not find in Usakos. The residents are told to be patient as they are only preparing the groundwork this year and might require more people later. However, the chief executive officer of the town, Ivin Lombardt, explained to NBC News the recruitment process, stating that the subcontractors came with their employees. There was, however, an engagement with the company to employ local people, and Lombardt, therefore, asked for patience from the community.
