Windhoek City Council approved the postponement of the /Ae //Gams Arts and Cultural Festival which was scheduled to take place from 28 to 30 October 2021. In a media statement, the city says the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic such as social distancing and limits to the number of people allowed per gathering have negative impacts on the successful hosting of an event of this nature and has therefore postponed the festival until all restrictions are lifted and the situation has stabilised. At a council meeting on Tuesday, the city’s leaders also agreed on the creation of a dedicated fund for the development of public open spaces (parks) in Windhoek. Council members resolved that proceeds from the sale of land resulting from the subdivision of portions from public open space be kept in a dedicated fund to be used for the development of the public parks in the city. The council also approved the financial and organisational quarterly performance report for the period of January to March 2021. This will enable the city to keep track of the organisational performance.
