There has been slow movement in implementing the Namibian Space Science and Technology Policy due to obstacles such as a lack of coordination in space science and technology as well as funding.
These remarks were made by the Director of Research and Innovation in the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Lisho Mundia, at a workshop aimed at assessing progress made since the introduction of the policy in 2021.
The one-day workshop for stakeholders was hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation and the National Commission on Research Science and Technology (NCRST).
Dr. Mundia highlighted the absence of a National Space Agency as an implementer, a national committee to advise the government on space science and technology, a lack of coordination, and a dedicated fund as some of the obstacles.
The workshop, therefore, discussed best practices and collectively devised strategies on how to overcome stumbling blocks.
