In an effort to improve sanitation in rural communities, the Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation Coordination in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform recently handed over a newly constructed communal ablution facility at Mungunda Village in Kavango East.

The facility is part of the community-led total sanitation program, which was introduced in 2008.

The Control Administration Officer in the Directorate of Water Supply and Coordination, Morrister Katulo, indicated that Munguda village residents responded very well to the program by constructing their own pit latrines without government subsidies.

He explained that this is the reason why the directorate resolved to construct a decent facility to complement the community's effort.

The facility contains four flushing toilets for both males and females and a shower for each section.

Mashare Constituency Councilor Philip Mavara commended the directorate for ensuring that communities have adequate water and sanitation.

Mavara also encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of the facility.
