National Council MPs have called on the Ministry of Labour to take the necessary steps against any form of exploitation of workers.
They expressed concern over the ineffectiveness of labor unions in representing workers, which they said leads to retrenchment without protection. MPs urged labor unions to do more to safeguard the interests of workers.
The MPs also highlighted the importance of creating more job opportunities in the country.
While applauding the Ministry for introducing a minimum wage in some sectors, such as domestic work, construction, and security, the MPs say more still needs to be done to address labor issues.
The National Council wants the Ministry and other relevant stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of workers and take proactive measures to improve their conditions.
This, they noted, is a crucial step towards promoting sustainable growth and ensuring a better future for all.
