The University of Namibia (UNAM) has been ranked 16th among the top 100 universities in Africa by the latest 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

In a media statement issued Friday, UNAM announced that the institution was ranked 16th among the Top 100 Universities in Africa by THE World University Rankings. The 13 indicators used by THE ranking to evaluate university performance include teaching, research, research impact, innovation, and an international outlook.

The broadest and most diversified university rankings to date, 2023 THE World University Rankings, featured 1,799 universities from 104 nations and regions.

UNAM, as a member of the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), said it considers these rankings/indicators a benchmark for continuing to build capacity in the quest to deliver quality education that promotes innovative research and academic mobility.

RUFORUM is a group of 163 African institutions from 40 nations that aims to advance higher learning and scientific research in agriculture and related fields.

RUFORUM aims to increase agricultural production, food security, and rural livelihoods in Africa through partnerships and collaborations with government organizations, private sector businesses, and other stakeholders.

Professor Frednard Gideon, UNAM Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said the university is proud to join other RUFORUM member universities in the list of the top universities in Africa.
