Standard Bank Namibia, through its corporate social responsibility programme, has reaffirmed its commitment to gradually move low-income earners from shacks to modern houses.
The bank pledged N$2,6 million towards the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia project for this year.
Standard Bank Namibia Senior Copywriter Khadijah Mouton says the bank has a significant role to play in ensuring the phasing out of shacks in the informal settlements.
Mouton also added that the bank is working with the Shack Dwellers Federation to address housing provision and improve the communities' living standards.
"A home that will provide security, comfort, and warmth; a home that will stand the test of time and age gracefully through the years along with its owner; a home made of bricks. Our vision is to create a shack-free Namibia and restore pride in our people. We're intentional and purpose-driven, and our true mission at Standard Bank is to make Namibia our home. We drive her growth.
With this assistance, the Federation is set to construct 155 houses in the Omaheke Region. Of these, one hundred houses will be built at Gobabis, 45 in Otjinene, and 10 at Witvlei.
