The drive for the police recruitment process closed today.
Applicants had mixed emotions as they all hoped to secure a uniform.
There are 750 vacancies up for grabs.
Requirements are that one should be in possession of an authentic Grade 12 or Grade 11 certificate with 25 points or higher from six subjects, including English with an "E" symbol or higher.
Individuals must be Namibian between the ages of 18 and 35 and should be free from mental or physical defects, disease, or infirmity, which will probably interfere with the proper execution of police duties.
One of those keeping their fingers crossed is Josiah Willem, a security officer with more than eleven years of experience in the security sector.
"Some of us are already fit for the position; we are already protecting the nation. So, instead of getting small kids from Grade 12, why can't they get us as security officers? If they can't consider us, then I don't know why they want more security, which is very important in Namibia."
Willem is hopeful but nervous too as he waits for the selection process.
Others, like Silvanus !Gaoseb, Thomas Joseph, and Julia Shiimi, are also keeping their fingers crossed.
"Some of us have experience in security work, so we are looking forward to being given a chance to serve that Namibian Police Force," said !Gaoseb.
"My hope is to make it off the list and to join the Namibian Police Force," added Joseph.
"The number is quite small because, looking at the queue starting from the first day to date, the lines are not decreasing, and how many unemployed youths does the country have? If I am looking at it with prayers, I think I qualify," said Shiimi.
Applicants who did not qualify were sent back.
The police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said the selection process will commence countrywide on Wednesday.
