The Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, Kornelia Shilunga, says it is fundamentally important to manage the assets of the government.

Shilunga addressed the launch of the ministry's automated fleet management system (FMS).

In 2017, the ministry identified the need to automate the fleet management business process.

The acting Executive Director of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Bryan Eiseb, said the ministry views the fleet management system as a government asset that would contribute towards the promotion of e-services and innovation in terms of ICT strategies.

Andreas Mutota, the Chief Analyst Programmer at the ministry who developed the system, said in his system demonstration that the skill sets are available in public service and that the government should encourage innovation and skill transfers to further enhance movement data security.

The system also aims to standardize the government fleet management process to improve service delivery transparency.

In her keynote address, Deputy Minister Kornelia Shilunga commended the developer of the system and highlighted its functionalities.

"The fleet management system has several functionalities to keep track of vehicle information, including vehicle maintenance, vehicle license management, vehicle accident reporting, pool vehicle management, vehicle inspection management, vehicle expense tracking, traffic line tracing, trip authority, and automated reports. The fleet management system enables the users to manage vehicle information, including having fast access to shared information through a designed and centralized database system that eliminates data redundancy and increases flexibility."

Shilunga added that it is her wish as a deputy minister that the fleet management system be implemented across all government offices, including other public institutions.
