The Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security was able to implement 86% of the decisions taken.

The Chairperson, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the five-day meeting of the organ held in Windhoek.

The decisions are part of the Ministerial Committee Organ meeting held last year.

"I wish to take this opportunity to commend both the Secretariat and Member States for successfully implementing 42 out of 58 decisions, while the implementation of the remaining 7 decisions is ongoing, making a total of 86% implementation."

The organ further pledged its continued support and assistance to the DRC and Mozambique, following the ongoing conflict in the two countries.

However, the intervention of the Panel of Elders in the Kingdom of Lesotho has yielded results.

As such, the committee looks to remove Lesotho from the Agenda.

"Notwithstanding the financial difficulties that countries are facing, I wish to express my gratitude to Member States for their pledges towards matters of peace and security, particularly in the Eastern DRC and Northern Mozambique. I'm pleased to note that, through the Panel of Elders (PoE), our interventions in the Kingdom of Lesotho are yielding results."

The SADC region is also preparing for elections in Zimbabwe, Madagascar, the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the DRC this year.

"The proposed amendments to the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections, in light of the upcoming elections in the region, specifically in the Republics of Zimbabwe and Madagascar, the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The proposed amendments were complemented by the reports of the Pre-Election Assessment Missions of the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC)."

Namibia will be handing over the Chairmanship of the Ministerial Committee Organ to South Africa.
