The nbc and Multi-Choice Namibia's 13 local films are set to hit your screen next month.
The project, also known as Project Mukorob, will take Namibian stories to the world.
Thirteen producers were selected out of over 200 submissions in the first phase of the production.
The local films that were produced in collaboration with the nbc, will provide compelling viewing for DStv and GOtv customers and take Namibian stories to the world as of September.
Project Mukorob was a year in the making, producing wholly Namibian feature films for global distribution while developing the local film industry.
MultiChoice Namibia's General Manager Roger Gertze says Namibian audiences should be ready to enjoy homegrown stories from diverse languages and landscapes.
Gertze stated that the company is committed to building a Namibian film and television industry that will deliver benefits and develop the film industry.
"I want to thank the nbc for their technical project management, which helped produce 13 quality and beautiful films. We are appreciative of their partnership in this endeavour, which brought Namibian stories to life and will promote Namibian talent on a continental stage. Catch the films on DSTV and GOTv, as well as Showmax under the row, from the first week of September. All films will also be available on Catchup."
The nbc's Director-General, Stanley Similo, hailed the corporation's Multi-Choice Namibia collaboration.
Similo added MultiChoice Namibia's decision to choose the national broadcaster as the producer for the films has played a pivotal role in identifying, developing, and elevating the Namibian film and arts industry to new heights.
The opportunity given to Namibian filmmakers, he says, is transformative, as they now have a platform to share their unique stories and creativity while boosting their careers and contributing to the cultural richness of the country.
According to audience research conducted by an independent research house, NEPA, 86% of Namibians desire to watch local content on their television.
All films will air on NBC from December 2023 to May 2025.
Five films that have an Afrikaans and Namibian vernacular will be aired on KykNET and Kie on Sundays at 20:00, starting with "The Funeral" on September 3rd, followed by "Bokwagter" on September 10th, "The Goal" on September 17th, "Wish for Death" on September 24th, and Instant Love on October 1st.
