Athletes from six different sports codes, who participated in the Commonwealth Games, Special Olympics, World Champs, Para World Champs and Africa Beach Games, have received their incentives, which form part of the National Rewards Policy.
The announcement was made by the Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission in Windhoek
Athletes, Cyclists, Karatekas, Swimmers, and para-athletes, who were waiting for their incentives from the Ministry of Sport - through the Namibia Sports Commission - have finally received their dues.
Some of them had been anticipating pay-outs since last year, after their successful participation in several international events.
The Chief Administrator of the Sports Commission, Freddy Mwiya, explained how the money was divided among the different winners.
Mwiya also explained what criteria was used for those who received their incentive.
Some of the representatives, who were present at today's press briefing, were grateful to receive the outstanding rewards.
‘’This is a good occasion whereby we have been rwarded with a grant and with this much we can do a lot hence we are very grateful for the Ministry as well as the sports commission for thinking of our athletes at large’’
So far the Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service has spent a total of one-million-and-fourty-five-thousand Namibia dollars for the payment of the athletes.
