A group of 224 Cadet Constables are on a six-month police basic training course at the Pius Joseph Kaundu Training Centre in the Omaheke Region. The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, who was speaking at the official opening of the training, says the success of the training is expected to strengthen manpower.

The Lieutenant General says the six-month training will ensure that cadets are transformed to be physically fit, possess tactical skills, and understand the values that define the police force. It also aims to capacitate and educate officers to deal with general policing aspects.

"Hence, during this training, the cadet constables will be exposed to the following modules: basic law, general policing, charge office administration, drill and musketry, physical education, information and communication, public order management, and basic traffic law enforcement."

The Police Commander of the Omaheke Region, Commissioner Andreas Haingura, reminded the trainees of the task ahead.

"The path you have chosen is not without challenges but also filled with opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of those you will serve."

Upon completing the six-month basic police training, the group will be further exposed to three months of specialised training in various areas.
