The Outjo Town Council has drilled a larger borehole to increase the water supply to the town and address water supply challenges.

Although the town supplies water from its underground water reservoir, the supply has been a challenge for over four years. This is largely due to the subduction of underground water, continued infrastructure damage, and vandalism of the system that pumps water.

Outjo already has five existing boreholes, and that number will increase depending on the demand. Town Mayor Johannes Bapello called on the residents to pay their rates and taxes for basic services to be optimally rolled out.

Currently, residents owe the town council up to N$30 million. In 2020, the council wrote off N$3.2 million in debt for the elderly.

Another development to take shape in the town is the opening of a section of road between the town centre and the state hospital, which will be upgraded with funding from private investors.
