The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested two Landless People's Movement (LPM) councillors and a senior employee of the Karasburg Town Council over alleged graft charges.

ACC Spokesperson Josefina Nghituwamata confirmed the arrests of the trio.

She, however, said the graft watchdog is unable to provide details on the matter.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court soon.

nbc News was reliably informed that the suspects were arrested for contravening the ACC's Sections 43 and 46 that related to corruptly using office or position for gratification and attempts and conspiracies, respectively.

Meanwhile, LPM, in a media statement, described the arrests as appalling.

Its national spokesperson, Lifalaza Simataa, says the suspects were arrested over charges of alleged illegal appointments and changing bank signatories.

Simataa argued that the case was an administrative matter that had been massively blown out of proportion and did not warrant ACC's intervention.

LPM vowed to fight the charges against the suspects, saying it had already enlisted a lawyer to attend to the matter.
