The Swapo Party Executive Committee Member in the Zambezi Region, Alufea Sampofu, has condemned tribalism within the party.

Sampofu was speaking at the regional mobilisation and recruitment drive at Katima Mulilo over the weekend.

"When we talk about politics, we must be very careful. When you enter politics, it means you sacrifice yourself for the nation. When you join a party, you sacrifice yourself for the party. Your individual interests must be put aside. We should work only for the interests of the party. That is the only way to go."

Sampofu said that the process of mobilisation and recruitment should be to grow the party and its interest and do away with tribalism.

"The same is true with tribalism and politics; they don't mix; it is better you become a tribalist; we know you as a tribalist than we know you as a politician; a politician is a person who brings people together; a politician is a person who maintains unity."

The drive also included fundraising for 2024 election campaigns and welcoming back those who had previously left the political party.

A national leader assigned to the Zambezi Region, Sebastiaan Karupu, reiterated the call for unity.

"I want to tell you that Swapo Party is a big family; we have different people of different characters; please do not listen to or be challenged by those comrades that are advancing their personal interests to get you frustrated and leave the political party."
