Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC Namibia) has released an official statement addressing allegations of missing funds.

The company's response comes after an incident in Parliament where Bernadus Swartbooi of the Landless People Movement (LPM) posed questions to the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprise, Iipumbu Shiimi, about an alleged transfer of N$1.2 billion from MTC's account to an unidentified recipient, purportedly for funding legal costs in the ongoing Fishrot court case.

According to Tim Ekando, the Chief Human Capital, Marketing, and Corporate Affairs Officer at MTC, the mobile service provider is "completely shocked and dismayed by these false and defamatory allegations,” further adding that “we have been operating in Namibia for over 27 years, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. There is absolutely no truth in this allegation.”

Ekandjo went on to express appreciation to Swartbooi, commending the lawmaker for posing the question to the Finance Minister, as "MTC encourages openness and transparency."
