China has pledged to provide food aid to Namibia worth N$27 million.

This was announced by Tang Wenhong, the Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), during a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob.

CIDCA, also known as China Aid, coordinates all foreign aid strategic guidelines, plans, and policies.

It is working alongside Namibian agencies to implement all bilateral agreements under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Framework, as well as those that emanated from meetings between President Xi Jinping and President Geingob.

China's food aid comes at a time when Namibia has declared a state of emergency over a drought, as an estimated 600,000 households are facing food insecurity.

CIDCA says developmental initiatives with Namibia are further anchored on global south-south cooperation.
While in Namibia, Tan will be meeting with the leadership of the National Planning Commission and other relevant agencies.
