The late Axali Doëseb was buried at Pioneerspark Cemetery in Windhoek.

Doëseb died at the age of 68 on the 27th of last month.

Family and friends gathered at Pioneerspark Cemetery to bid farewell to the composer and author of Namibia's National Anthem, Axali Doëseb.

The Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoëbes, said the composer's work has become the national identity that resonates in the minds of all Namibians, reminding them of their shared heritage.

"As we accompany the remains of Axali to the final resting place this morning, let us also celebrate the life and legacy of this remarkable individual. Mr. Doëseb's talent, dedication, and passion for music have enriched our cultural heritage and will continue to inspire generations to come."

A traditional ritual was also performed.

The casket was lowered concurrently with the 13-gun salute, a difficult moment for the widow Amalia Doäses.

The sermon was conducted by Bishop Sageus |Keib

"You called our brother Axali Doäseb out of his life; therefore, we carry him up into the grace of God, and we commit his body to God's presence. Ashes to ashes. Amen."

The Widow Doëses, was the first to lay the wreath, followed by Vice President and Chief Mourner Nangolo Mbumba and government officials.

Apart from composing the national anthem, Doëseb also served as conductor of the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra and is well known for his musical talent. 

Doëseb was conferred a state funeral.

A period of morning was declared in his honour from Friday until the State Funeral today, where all flags in the country and diplomatic missions abroad were flown at half-mast.

He is survived by his wife, five children, and grandchildren.
