Renowned social commentator Dr. Uazuva Kaumbi, aged 60, died early this morning at the Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek.

Heinrich Uazuva Kaumbi was born in Windhoek, matriculated from Döbra RC High School, and established himself as a renowned academic and community activist.

Kaumbi had an illustrious career, and his activism and professional world spanned various fields.

After high school, he pursued his studies in South Africa and obtained a BSc degree in engineering.

He worked at the National Housing Enterprise as a senior manager of technical services as well as at the City of Windhoek as a senior engineer.

He also served on the nbc Board as the chairperson, during which time he introduced indigenous language bulletins on television.

As a committed Pan-Africanist, Kaumbi served as the executive producer on the biographical film on founding President Sam Nujoma's life, 'Where Others Waivered'.

Kaumbi was a former business developer at Afrikuumba, which is one of the major housing developers in the country.

Apart from his professional work, Kaumbi was also involved in community work involving the ovaHerero people.

He was also the official spokesperson and legal advisor to the Ovaherero Traditional Authority until there was a split between the group of acting chiefs led by Vipuira Kapuuo and Prof. Mutjinde Katjiua.

After Dr. Ririuako was installed as the chief of one of the groups in February, Kaumbi continued to be his legal advisor and spokesperson.

More recently, Dr. Kaumbi was appointed as a member of the Namibia University of Science and Technology's interim council. 

As a person who believed in advancing himself, Kaumbi obtained a further three degrees, namely a BCom, an MSc, and a PhD in business administration.

In addition to farming full-time, he was also a part-time lecturer at NUST in the Department of Civil Engineering.

He leaves behind a wife, Vespa Nguini Kaumbi, six children, and three grandchildren
