Regional governors are meeting at Gobabis for the 3rd Annual Forum to discuss, among others, rural development, decentralisation, economic growth, and challenges facing communities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, the Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoebes emphasised that such platforms are important when it comes to strategic topics that assist with underlining governors' political oversight of government programmes and the importance of service delivery.

The Minister also noted that this was the time for governors to reflect on their responsibilities as public servants and the impact they can make on communities.

"As regional governors, you're at the forefront of implementing government programmes and policies, ensuring that they are effectively executed, and delivering the desired outcomes. Your role is pivotal in translating political visions into tangible results that will improve the lives of our people."

The Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Kariseb, stressed that sessions such as these should deliberate on innovative ideas and collaborative efforts aimed at contributing to the prosperity and wellbeing of the people.

"May this session be a platform for fruitful deliberations and meaningful collaborations that will leave a lasting impact on the prosperity of our communities."

The Chairperson of the Governors Forum, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, stressed that the forum will take stock and evaluate the institutional capacity.

They will also develop plans to become more efficient in achieving targeted objectives.

"We have also resolved that this platform will be the appropriate opportunity for us to interact with other interlinked service delivery strategic development partners to review our current linkages and to re-connect our respective responsibilities and mandates to map out our joint strategy in
efficient service delivery."

The forum, which ends on Saturday, will also reflect on the possible solutions that will influence the performance of regional governors.
