While the festive season can be a joyful time for many, it sometimes leads to underlying tensions within family relations that come to the surface.

Increased stress, financial pressures, and expectations during the festive season can contribute to an already volatile situation, leading to incidents of physical confrontation and gender-based violence (GBV).

GBV cases typically increase during the festive season due to increased alcohol consumption, which can lead to aggression and impaired decision-making, underlying relationship tensions, cultural norms and gender roles, and a lack of awareness and education.

To combat this issue, the government and stakeholders collaborate to address GBV throughout the year through awareness campaigns, educational programmes, and support services.
