The government allocates close to N$4,1 million every month to support over 3000 people with disabilities in the Erongo Region.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre has, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation where senior citizens are left alone to care for children with disabilities.

Andre, speaking at the handover ceremony of 300 food parcels to Arandis senior citizens, emphasised that many young people lack the necessary skills to care for children with disabilities.

The governor points out that although some guardians receive grants, it is insufficient to adequately care for children with disabilities, let alone meet the needs of the guardians themselves.

Andre advocates for special treatment of senior citizens, including debt relief if they are unable to afford it and promoting social interactions.
