The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, visited the late President Geingob's family.

Patricia Scotland expressed the deep sense of loss felt by the entire Commonwealth family over the death of Dr. Hage Geingob.

She described him as a "giant amongst men" and a key figure in the liberation movement in southern Africa.

"It is my great privilege and pleasure to attend on behalf of the 56 countries of the Commonwealth, representing 2.5 billion people, 60% of whom are under the age of 30. I know that the whole Commonwealth is grieving with the Namibian family of nations and also grieving with President Hage Geingob's wife, Monica, and all his children. Hage Geingob was a giant amongst men."

She highlighted the late head of state's pivotal role in crafting the Namibian constitution, noting the wisdom and foresight he demonstrated in ensuring a peaceful transition of power.

Scotland emphasised the enduring impact of Geingob's leadership, both in Namibia and across the African continent, and spoke of the personal friendship she shared with him.

"He was one of the architects of the freedom movement that liberated southern Africa. He is perhaps one of the last of those who fought for the freedom of Africa. And his crafting of the Namibian constitution was not only wise, but much needed. And we can see the magnificence of it now. We share your loss, and we ask for perpetual light to shine on him. So may God bless him. May God bless his family. May the angels of heaven walk with them, give them courage, give them peace, and let all of us grieve him with a huge feeling of gratitude for everything he did for us, for Africa, and for our Commonwealth. May he rest in peace."

The Secretary General's tribute was a significant reminder of the profound contributions made by President Geingob to his country, Africa, and the Commonwealth.
