In its efforts to bring police services closer to the community, the police have inaugurated a police station at Onderombapa in the Aminuis Constituency.
The fully equipped station has a borehole, a water tank, and a vehicle worth N$6 million.
During the inauguration, Police Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, stressed that the establishment of a police station is an affirmation of the urgency placed on the safety of residents.
"This police station is more than just a building, it is a symbol of hope and progress for the people of Aminuis and the surrounding areas. It represents our unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, promoting justice, and fostering a sense of security with our communities. With these new facilities, we will be equipped to respond to emergencies, investigate crimes, and provide essential services to those in need."
Shikongo urged the law enforcement officers to serve the community with integrity, professionalism, and compassion at all times.
On the crime aspect, records show that the most prevalent crimes in the Omaheke Region include stock theft, housebreaking, and assault.
A Senior Traditional Council member of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority, Bethold Tjiundje, stated that usually people travelled long distances to access police services, which is now something of the past.
Furthermore, Tjiundje is pleased with the progress made by the central government in ensuring that the constituency is developed.
"My humble plea goes to the people of Aminuis to ensure that we take care of the infrastructure provided by our government."
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate also attended the inauguration of the station.
The Police Inspector General made use of the occasion to advocate for the establishment of a police reservist team to assist with police work.
The Onderombapa Police Station has eight law enforcement officers headed by Inspector Cornelius Tsaindib as station commander.
